Marjorie Campbell, nee Anderson was born in China to missionary parents. After the death of her father in 1939 the family returned to Scotland and spent the war years in Kincraig, attending Alvie School.

At the end of the war they moved to 2 Belleview Terrace, Edinburgh, her mother's old family home, by means of a grant to Mary Erskine School and later to Edinburgh College of Art where she won travelling scholarships to London and Paris.

Art was clearly going to be Marjorie's career from very early in life. Although she chose to specialise in Book Illustration and Graphics, she drew and painted portraits and landscapes, created designs for quilting and crystal engraving and collaborated in hot glass creations.

Marjorie married Archie Campbell in 1960 and after a year in London they settled at 109 Braid Road, Edinburgh. Four daughters were soon added to the family and the opportunity came to rent the small flat above the old stables at Inverernen House in Strathdon.

The place became a holiday refuge and provided a wealth of precious memories from 1967-1972.

Marjorie would always bring quantities of paper and painting materials and managed to combine family adventures with a steady flow of art-work.

She exhibited in Edinburgh during her life-time and after her untimely death in 1999, large retrospective exhibitions were invited at the Lillie gallery in Milngavie, Glasgow and the Smith Gallery in Stirling.

Some of her work has joined their permanent collections. This exhibition will focus on paintings executed in Strathdon.

A few of these will be for sale, also some high quality prints of popular works and copies of a small biographical illustrated book.
